Latasha Norman: Updates

Ex-boyfriend of missing JSU student being held by police

The ex-boyfriend of Missing Jackson State University student Latasha Norman was taken into custody by the Jackson Police Department this morning.

Stanley Cole is being held for questioning in her disappearance, said JPD spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott.

“Hopefully we will gain some information on the disappearance of Latasha Norman,” Scott said.

Scott called Cole a “person of interest” in Norman case.

Norman has been missing since Nov. 13.

Police took Cole into custody this morning when he showed up for a court hearing in Pearl to face simple assault charges for allegedly hitting Norman in a restaurant parking lot in October.

Authorities are interviewing Cole, but have not filed any charges at this time, Scott said.

Scott could not offer any additional information.

Officials from JPD, the FBI, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson State Police Department are expected to hold a press conference on the Norman case later today.

Ex-Boyfriend Questioned On Missing JSU Student

A man accused of hitting a Jackson State University student in October is being questioned in connection with her disappearance.

Latasha Norman's ex-boyfriend, Stanley Cole, was arraigned Thursday morning in Pearl on domestic violence charges. Jackson police then detained him for questioning in connection with Norman's disappearance.

Norman, a 20-year-old accounting student, was last seen Nov. 13 in one of her classes. Her car was left on the campus, but she never returned to her dormitory room when the afternoon class ended.

Several people, including Hinds County Sheriff and Jackson Police Chief Malcolm McMillin and Tougaloo College Professor Melody Fisher, have said Norman's case hasn't gotten more national attention because she is black.

Investigators said they've turned over evidence in the case to the FBI, but they wouldn't specify what they found. In their search, police checked all the buildings on campus, a nearby cemetery and vacant houses.

Norman's friends set up a group on popular social networking site Facebook to help find the junior accounting student, and friends and family have posted fliers with her picture.

Family members said last week they were confident that she's still alive.

"We know in our heart that God is going to bring Tasha home to us. We know he is already working it out," Norman's mother, Patricia Bolden, said.
